Mother & Child Arch
This piece was made as part of my residency at Sanitary Fill Co.'s Transfer Station. The artist-in-residence program there allows participants access to San Francisco's "waste stream" and provides them with studio space, tools and technical assistance in creating art from this wealth of materials. Everything used in this sculpture was rescued from the garbage. Since there was little color variety in the tiles I found, I used spray-painted glass for much of the mosaic. The two arches represent my height and the height of my son at the time. The piece is installed in the Joseph Johnson Memorial Sculpture Garden at the Sanitary Fill facility on Tunnel Ave. |
